Main Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Quant Trader to join our dynamic energy trading team, to drive profitability through the development and execution of sophisticated algorithmic trading strategies in European short-term power markets. The role combines quantitative expertise with power market knowledge to identify and capitalize on trading opportunities across Day-Ahead, Intraday, and Balancing markets. The position requires demonstrating sophisticated data analytics, machine learning techniques, and market insights to make rapid, data-driven trading decisions that generate consistent positive returns while effectively handling risk in volatile energy markets.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply trading strategies in Day-Ahead, Intraday, and Balancing power markets using data analytics and quantitative methods.
- Build and implement statistical and quantitative models to predict market movements, renewable generation, demand patterns, and grid conditions.
- Leverage large datasets, including market data, weather forecasts, and system operator signals, to identify actionable trading opportunities.
- Improve trading models through back testing and performance evaluation.
- Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to ensure the availability of high-quality data pipelines for model development.
- Supervise and handle trading positions in real-time, making adjustments to capitalize on market opportunities and manage risk.
- Stay informed on the latest advancements in machine learning, quantitative finance, and power market developments to maintain a competitive edge.
- Contribute to the development of automated trading systems and decision-support tools.
Requirements:
- Proven track record of positive PnL in short-term European power markets (Day-Ahead, Intraday, and/or Balancing).
- Strong expertise in developing, implementing, and deploying machine learning models for real-world applications, preferably in trading or market analysis.
- Hands-on programming experience in Python, with solid understanding of probabilistic forecasting and ML frameworks.
- Proven understanding of short-term European power market dynamics, including renewable integration, grid balancing, congestion management, and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with data processing, time-series analysis, and feature engineering for forecasting and decision-making in energy markets.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with a degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related discipline. Advanced degrees (MSc/PhD) are a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and trading teams
