The Research Portal is a national research infrastructure developed and operated by the NORA team – part of DTU's Department of IT Service (AIT). AIT also handles a number of other national tasks relating to research and educational infrastructure. Research Portal Denmark is funded by the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science, with whom goals and frameworks are continuously coordinated. The team behind the Research Portal is called National Open Research Analytics (NORA), and the workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus. Our mission is to develop and maintain Research Portal Denmark including datasets e.g. on publications, funders, grants, patents, datasets, clinical trials, and policy papers – and the links between them. This year’s focus is on consolidating the portal and we’re now gearing up for 2026 with a strong focus on user group insights to better serve our stakeholders and improve the user experience on the portal.

Primary responsibilities
As our new Front-End Developer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing user-facing features and interfaces that make complex research data accessible and meaningful. Your tasks will include:
- Leading the redesign and modernization of the portal’s front end using a modern JavaScript framework (e.g. React, Vue)
- Collaborating with backend developers, analysts, and stakeholders to translate data and user needs into intuitive interfaces
- Improving the portal’s usability, accessibility, and performance
- Contributing to the design and implementation of new features and visualizations
- Supporting user testing and feedback loops to continuously refine the user experience
- Participating in the design of new concepts as the portal expands in scope and functionality
- Supporting and enhancing our analytic module, which includes interactive visualizations and dashboards
- Implementing and maintaining tools for tracking user behavior (e.g. Matomo) to help us better understand how the portal is used and where improvements can be made.
Your skills
You have solid experience in front-end development and a strong interest in user-centered design. Ideally, you bring experience with:
- JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, React, Vue, or similar.
- HTML5, CSS3, and responsive design principles.
- RESTful APIs and integration with backend services.
- Data visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js, Chart.js) or dashboard frameworks.
- Accessibility standards (WCAG) and performance optimization.
- Tools for tracking and analyzing user behavior (e.g. Matomo).
- Version control (Git) and CI/CD workflows.
- Working in agile, collaborative development environments.
Experience or interest in data visualization and analytics is a strong plus, especially if you’ve worked with research data or public sector platforms. Most importantly, you are a quick learner, committed, and eager to explore new areas.
Salary and appointment terms
Salary and employment terms in accordance with the OAO-S Joint Agreement and the organization agreement for IT employees (Prosa) in the service of the state or the appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations or other relevant collective agreement. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union.
We expect the candidate to start 1 October 2025 (or according to mutual agreement).
