Mastercard Open Finance is building trusted, secure, and high-performing services that power a world beyond cash. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for the analysis, design, development, and delivery of software solutions across our Open Finance platforms. You will define and refine backend requirements and integrations to Mastercard standards, processes, and best practices; develop, customize, and test services; and provide leadership, mentoring, and technical training to other team members. You’ll collaborate closely with Product Owners, Solution Architects, and Development Leads to ensure our solutions meet business and regulatory needs while maintaining enterprise-grade resilience, performance, and security.

- Service Ownership: Lead day-to-day backend development and maintenance activities to meet SLAs, delivering solutions with innovation, cost effectiveness, high quality, and faster time to market.
- End-to-End SDLC: Own the full development life cycle — produce high-quality technical artifacts (requirements, use cases, designs), detailed test strategies, performance benchmarks, rollout/deployment and contingency plans, feasibility analyses, and accurate estimates.
- Operate & Improve: Perform system maintenance and production incident/problem management, including root-cause analysis, remediation, and participation in on-call rotations. Maintain solution and technology roadmaps.
- Frameworks & Methodology: Select appropriate technical frameworks and delivery methodologies; adapt templates and artifacts to project and technology needs; contribute to continuous improvement of standards and processes.
- Evaluate & Experiment: Research and evaluate current and emerging technologies and frameworks; participate in proofs of concept; support vendor/technology/methodology selection.
- Ecosystem Collaboration: Collaborate with vendor resources for product support and ensure effective knowledge transfer to Mastercard staff; conduct brownbag sessions and provide technical training/mentoring.
- Quality First: Champion QA/QC processes—ensure robust unit, integration, system, security, and performance testing; conduct and participate in requirements, design, code, and security reviews; raise the bar on automation and reliability.
- Agile Ways of Working: Contribute to agile ceremonies, drive backlog quality, and coordinate with offshore teams to ensure clarity, throughput, and predictable delivery.
- Security & Compliance: Build secure, compliant services aligned with Mastercard security policies and relevant Open Finance regulations and standards (e.g., PSD2/RTS, data protection).
