The Position
Key responsibilities of the role
- Conduct comprehensive market research to identify potential suppliers that meet technical, quality, and cost requirements.
- Work proactively with suppliers to identify innovative materials, manufacturing techniques, and cost-saving solutions that enhance Orbex's competitiveness.
- Manage the full procurement cycle, overseeing orders from creation through to final delivery, ensuring compliance with Orbex Procurement and Quality Standards where required.
- Work closely with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure procurement aligns with project requirements.
- Track and expedite order progress, coordinating with suppliers to ensure on-time deliveries while meeting quality and compliance expectations.
- Analyse and negotiate contractual terms and conditions, ensuring suppliers meet risk management and quality expectations.
- Act as a mentor and knowledge resource for Procurement Assistants, providing guidance on procurement processes, ERP systems, and supplier communication.
- Act as a key liaison between procurement, engineering, production, and senior management, ensuring transparency in procurement decisions.
- CIPS certification, University Diploma, or equivalent procurement qualifications
- Proven experience in procurement or purchasing, preferably from the aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, or manufacturing industries
- Proficiency in ERP systems and tools (we use Odoo)
- Experience implementing procurement best practices, sourcing methodologies, and contract management.
- Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to manage complex supplier relationships.
- Understanding of legal and regulatory requirements related to procurement and supply chain activities.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business Management, Supply Chain or another related field
- Knowledge of the space industry, launch operations, aerospace manufacturing
- Familiarity with ground support equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, and related systems
- Knowledge of export control regulations and ITAR compliance.
