Main Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Day-Ahead Power Trader to join our dynamic energy trading team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering consistent P&L contributions in the Central European (CEE) power markets and the UK, as well as extensive experience in cross-border trading. You will play a key role in optimizing our day-ahead trading strategies, demonstrating your market expertise, data-driven decision-making skills, and ability to identify profitable opportunities in volatile and fast-moving markets.This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment with a global energy player, where you will have the autonomy to execute trades, develop new strategies, and contribute to the overall success of our trading desk.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
Day-Ahead Power Trading:
- Execute day-ahead power trades across Central European markets (Germany, France, Netherlands, Austria, etc.) and the UK, ensuring compliance with market regulations and internal risk policies.
- Optimize trading positions to enhance profitability while handling risk exposure.
- Supervise and analyze supply and demand fundamentals, grid constraints, weather forecasts, and other market drivers to advise trading decisions.
Cross-Border Trading:
- Leverage a deep understanding of cross-border trading opportunities, including interconnection capacities, price spreads, and congestion management between markets.
- Identify and implement profitable cross-border arbitrage strategies, ensuring efficient utilization of interconnectors across Central European markets and the UK.
- Supervise regulatory and operational developments impacting cross-border flows and adapt trading strategies accordingly.
Market Analysis & Strategy Development:
- Conduct in-depth analysis of market trends, price drivers, and regulatory changes in the CEE and UK power markets.
- Develop and implement innovative trading strategies to capture market inefficiencies and improve portfolio performance.
- Collaborate with analysts, quants, and technology teams to improve data models, forecasting tools, and trading platforms.
P&L Accountability:
- Deliver consistent and measurable P&L contributions, meeting or exceeding annual performance targets.
- Continuously evaluate trading performance, identifying areas for improvement and adjusting strategies accordingly.
Collaboration & Leadership:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including intraday traders, risk managers, and operations teams, to ensure seamless execution of strategies.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior traders, sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous learning.
Risk Management:
- Adhere to risk management frameworks and ensure all trading activities align with the company’s risk appetite and compliance standards.
- Actively supervise and handle position limits, exposures, and market risks.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Communicate trading results, market insights, and strategic updates to senior management and other key stakeholders.
- Represent the company in industry forums and maintain strong relationships with market operators, brokers, and counterparties.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of proven success in day-ahead power trading, with a consistent strong track record of P&L contributions in Central European markets (e.g., EPEX, Nord Pool) and the UK.
- Cross-Border Trading Expertise: Extensive experience with cross-border trading, including a detailed understanding of interconnection capacities, congestion pricing, and cross-border flow optimization strategies.
- Market Knowledge: Deep understanding of European power market dynamics, including pricing mechanisms, grid operations, and regulatory frameworks.
- Analytical Skills: Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to process large datasets and identify actionable insights.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in trading platforms (e.g., EPEX, Nord Pool), programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL), and forecasting tools.
- Decision-Making: Exceptional decision-making skills under pressure, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing market conditions.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Economics, Engineering, or Energy Systems.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with the regulatory landscape impacting cross-border trading and market coupling in Europe.
