At Danfoss Drives, we are constantly working to optimize the efficiency and performance of our AC motor drives. A crucial component of this is the internal Flyback Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS)—used to power control circuits, gate drivers, and cooling fans.

Due to their simplicity and cost-efficiency, flyback SMPS designs are widely used in our product portfolio. However, losses in magnetic and switching components significantly impact their efficiency. This project focuses on analyzing, modeling, and validating these losses to support a simulation-based design approach across our development teams

Job Responsibilities

What You’ll Work On:

• Analyze magnetic losses (hysteresis, core loss, copper loss, skin and proximity effects)

• Analyze MOSFET losses (switching and conduction)

• Build and simulate a mathematical loss model

• Validate the model using lab tests and/or Finite Element Method (FEM)

• Integrate the model into Danfoss Web Apps used for internal simulation

Project Scope Options:

• �� Company Project: Focus on the Fx02-03 Single-switch SMPS

• �� Master’s Thesis: Expand to other SMPS types (dual-switch, future Near-QR designs)

• A student in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics

• Basic understanding of power supplies and magnetic components

• Experience with tools like MATLAB, Simulink, FEM tools (COMSOL, ANSYS), or similar

• Interest in simulation and modeling

• Good communication and documentation skills
