Job Title: (Senior) Fermentation Scientist
Location: Hørsholm, Denmark (FMC European Innovation Centre)
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on (Senior) Fermentation Scientist to lead upstream process development and optimisation from lab to pilot scale. You will run laboratory-scale fermentation experiments, analyse data, and work closely with cross-functional teams to support scale-up and technology transfer to manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute microbial fermentations (1–10 L scale)
- Analyse data to improve productivity, strain performance, and process robustness
- Collaborate with strain engineering, downstream processing, and scale-up teams
- Develop scale-up and scale-down strategies for smooth technology transfer
- Mentor junior colleagues and promote best practices in fermentation science
Your Background
- MSc or PhD in biotechnology, biochemical or chemical engineering (or similar)
- Extensive hands-on experience with laboratory-scale fermentation systems
- Solid knowledge of microbial physiology, process monitoring, and control
- Industrial experience with fermentation scale-up is a plus
- Experience with data tools (e.g. JMP, R, Power BI)
- Excellent English skills, both written and spoken
