Special Consultant or Academic Research Staff

for the Proteomics Research Infrastructure

Background
The Proteomics Research Infrastructure (PRI) is a cutting-edge core facility specializing in mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics, located at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, PRI was established within the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) - a globally recognized institute at the forefront of proteomics technology and fundamental protein research.

PRI provides open and timely access to state-of-the-art proteomics technologies, offering end-to-end support including project design, sample preparation, MS acquisition, and advanced data analysis. Designed for scalability, automation, and innovation, the facility serves a broad scientific community, including clinical and translational research programs.

As part of the newly launched Center for Core Facilities (CCF) at the University of Copenhagen, PRI operates in a vibrant, international, and highly collaborative environment. English is the primary working language.

We are currently seeking a motivated and skilled Staff Scientist (Special Consultant or Academic research staff level) to help drive and support our expanding clinical proteomics pipelines at PRI.

Job Description
The selected candidate will play a central role in supporting and advancing PRI’s high-throughput clinical proteomics workflows. This includes hands-on involvement in sample preparation, method development, data analysis, and quality assurance for large-scale proteomics studies.

The position requires a strong background in proteomics or related life sciences, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset. The Staff Scientist will work in close collaboration with PRI’s Proteomics Service Manager, to whom they will report directly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute experiments within PRI’s advanced proteomics service pipeline.
  • Perform sample preparation for MS-based proteomics, including large-scale clinical cohorts.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot automated liquid handling platforms and sample preparation instruments.
  • Conduct LC-MS analyses using high-end instrumentation, including Evosep ENO, Thermo Orbitrap Astral Zoom, and Bruker timsUltra AIP.
  • Analyze proteomics data using specialized software tools and contribute to high-quality interpretation and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate and well-organized documentation using electronic lab notebooks and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Support continuous optimization of workflows to improve reproducibility, scalability, and overall laboratory performance.
  • Collaborate with PRI team members and external users to ensure timely and efficient project execution.
  • Contribute to training, protocol development, and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Perform additional tasks as required to support the day-to-day operations and strategic goals of the facility.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate is reliable, well-organized, and able to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative and international team environment. The role requires flexibility, precision, and a strong attention to detail, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related life science discipline
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on experience with molecular biology or biochemistry laboratory techniques
  • Strong computer literacy and familiarity with digital tools used in laboratory environments
  • Proficiency in English, with excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automated liquid handling systems
  • Prior involvement in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, either in a research or service setting
  • Familiarity with high-throughput sample preparation workflows and quality control practices

Employment conditions
The employment is a fixed position for 3 years, with the possibility of continuation. The estimated start date is October 1st, 2025. Working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position as Special Consultant or Academic Research Staff will be in accordance with The Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning Academics in the state sector concluded between the Danish Ministry of Finance and Akademikerne (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

On top of the basic salary there is a monthly contribution to a pension fund according to the collective agreement, and a supplement may be negotiated, depending on the candidate’s experiences and qualifications.
