Site Avedøre produces lactic acid bacteria for the Dairy and Human Health Industry. We operate the largest culture plant in the world, with advanced technology and an outstanding team of dedicated and competent employees.
The fermentation department is producing 24/7 and covering app. 50 % of the global bulk volume for dairy cultures. Our department includes specialists, quality and training coordinators, a dedicated maintenance team, production technicians, 6 operator teams, and a strong leadership group. This position leads a team – called PMG - of 7 specialists and plays a central role in both daily operational support and longer-term process optimisation projects.
Manager in Fermentation
This is more than a leadership role — it is a key position within a high-performing department where success is built on collaboration across functions.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Manager in Fermentation to join our Fermentation Department supporting the production of lactic acid bacteria. This position leads a team of 7 specialists and plays a central role in both daily operational support and longer-term process optimisation projects. The successful candidate will bring a strong background in microbiology and fermentation, with solid project management capabilities and a collaborative mindset.

The new Manager must value and foster cross-functional teamwork, recognising that shared goals are achieved only when all parts of the organization work together.
Lead and support the team members in their daily tasks, data analysis, root cause investigations, process monitoring, and documentation.
Ensure stable fermentation performance through daily proactive process support, troubleshooting of deviations, and close coordination with production.
Manage and prioritise the fermentation improvement project portfolio, driving initiatives related to efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness from planning to execution and follow-up.
Act as a key contributor in cross-functional project teams, working closely with global R&D, quality, supply chain, engineering, and other internal stakeholders.
Promote strong collaboration within the fermentation department — recognising and reinforcing the interdependence between teams including operations, maintenance, training, and quality.
Serve as a subject matter expert in microbiology and fermentation, particularly within the context of industrial lactic acid bacteria production.
Coach and develop team members, supporting both their technical growth and soft skills to contribute to a high-performance culture.
Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards in all aspects of fermentation operations and project execution.
Support a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and shared accountability for performance.
Contribute actively to departmental leadership, supporting strategic planning, resource prioritisation, and continuous improvement initiatives across the full fermentation department.
Key stakeholders:

Industrial/technical background
Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience, ideally in fermentation-based production environments, with at least 2 years in a leadership or project management role.
Expected educational background
MSc or PhD in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
Relevant professional skills:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience, ideally in fermentation-based production environments, with at least 2 years in a leadership or project management role.
In-depth knowledge of microbial fermentation, especially lactic acid bacteria.
Years of relevant experience:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience, ideally in fermentation-based production environments, with at least 2 years in a leadership or project management role.
Language requirements and proficiency level:
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
